The Matrix

On the surface, The Matrix is one of the best Science Fiction Action Movies ever made. Style is just dripping from the film in every scene, but it's not just all flash with no substance. Dig a little deeper and you will find The Matrix is overflowing with substance -- religious, philosophical, and even Platonic idealism.

Signs

The first half of Signs was much better than I expected. Unfortunately, the second half was much worse than I expected, leaving a bad taste in my mouth for this movie that I just couldn't shake.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

While it may be visually stunning and somewhat thought provoking, Star Trek: The Motion Picture is, unfortunately, boring. If it were not for the blaring red alert alarms, I think I might have slept through most of the film.

The movie begins with a huge, ominous cloud destroying three Klingon ships as it moves towards the planet Earth. Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner), having been relegated to desk duty, seizes the opportunity created by this crisis to once again take command of the Starship Enterprise and attempt to save Earth from this unknown energy cloud.

Looker

Looker, another early 80's Science Fiction movie written and directed by Michael Crichton, reminds me so much of another one of his movies (Runaway) that I'm tempted to classify it as Runaway with models instead of robots -- which might not be too far from reality.

John Carpenter's The Thing

I hate the cold. Snow and Ice are definitely not for me. After seeing John Carpenter's The Thing, I'm even more sure of this fact. This movie reinforces the fact that the Antarctic is the last place on earth I would ever want to visit.

Runaway

Runaway was one of Michael Crichton's early attempts at writing and directing. While it may not be remembered as one of his best films, it's a thoroughly enjoyable SciFi crime thriller -- and it has some of the coolest, heat seeking missile bullets ever seen on film!

War of the Worlds

At one point in War of the Worlds, Tom Cruise announces There's nothing living in that direction! which pretty much sums up my feelings about this movie. It was well made, competently directed, and had perfectly good performances, but it just didn't go anywhere.
