Movie Reviews
Back to the Future
Submitted by SciScene on September 4, 2007 - 8:47pm.If you're looking for a fun (and somewhat comedic) science fiction movie, Back to the Future more than fits the bill. With a great, over the top comedic performance from Christopher Lloyd and more pop culture references than you can shake a stick at, this has to be one of the more enjoyable SciFi/Comedy movies ever made.
The Terminator
Submitted by SciScene on June 28, 2007 - 9:08pm.Featuring an extreme case of mistaken identity, The Terminator demonstrates that sometimes having a common name doesn't make you anonymous. In fact, it can make you the center of attention and be downright deadly.
Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) is just an average person leading an average, almost boring, life. Working as a waitress, an exciting night for Sarah is one where her roommate goes out so she can spend a quite night at home. But as Sarah trudges through her daily life, a completely different scene is taking place in the future.
2001: A Space Odyssey
Submitted by SciScene on June 25, 2007 - 10:23pm.A film doesn't have to make sense and offer an explanation for everthing contained within it to be entertaining. In fact, sometimes, an open ended movie with room for interpretation can be brilliant. 2001: A Space Odyssey is the perfect example of this situation. It leaves a lot of questions unanswered and is considered by some to be downright confusing, but it is still a great movie.
The Matrix Reloaded
Submitted by SciScene on June 24, 2007 - 6:53pm.Where The Matrix was one of the more intellectual Science Fiction movies in recent years, The Matrix Reloaded is more of an action sequence in the middle of a film. Kind of like the middle of one long movie that The Matrix trilogy seems to be destined to become.
Alien
Submitted by SciScene on June 23, 2007 - 1:35pm.In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream. This famous tagline from the movie Alien sets the tone for one of the scariest Science Fiction movies of all time.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Submitted by SciScene on June 5, 2007 - 5:20pm.With Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan the infamous Star Trek sequel pattern begins. We all know what it is -- repeat after me -- even numbered films are good, odd numbered films are bad. While this may seem arbitrary, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan lives up to this pattern as one of the rare sequels that is actually better than it's predecessor.
Planet of the Apes
Submitted by SciScene on June 4, 2007 - 9:12pm.Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape! This is one of the most famous lines in Science Fiction history, and it's also the first words ever spoken by humans to apes in Planet of the Apes.
The Matrix
Submitted by SciScene on June 3, 2007 - 4:06pm.On the surface, The Matrix is one of the best Science Fiction Action Movies ever made. Style is just dripping from the film in every scene, but it's not just all flash with no substance. Dig a little deeper and you will find The Matrix is overflowing with substance -- religious, philosophical, and even Platonic idealism.
Signs
Submitted by SciScene on June 2, 2007 - 6:29pm.The first half of Signs was much better than I expected. Unfortunately, the second half was much worse than I expected, leaving a bad taste in my mouth for this movie that I just couldn't shake.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Submitted by SciScene on May 18, 2007 - 7:18am.While it may be visually stunning and somewhat thought provoking, Star Trek: The Motion Picture is, unfortunately, boring. If it were not for the blaring red alert alarms, I think I might have slept through most of the film.
The movie begins with a huge, ominous cloud destroying three Klingon ships as it moves towards the planet Earth. Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner), having been relegated to desk duty, seizes the opportunity created by this crisis to once again take command of the Starship Enterprise and attempt to save Earth from this unknown energy cloud.
